How To Prepare Your Home For Professional Painters

Professional painters take the hassle out of painting a home, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely off the hook for the prep work. While you can leave this all to the pros, there are some steps that are best left in your hands. Follow the tips below to learn how to prepare your home for professional painters, and your painters will be in and out in no time.

Clear The Room

One of the most important steps in paint preparation is clearing the room that will be painted. If you cannot remove all of the furniture and belongings from the room, you should at least move everything to the center. This will give the painters quick access to the walls so they can easily get started working. If there are valuable items that you want to ensure are not damaged, you may want to relocate them, just to be safe.

Cover Your Furniture

Your painters will do their best to cover whatever furniture you have left in the room, but they may not know just how valuable or delicate some of your belongings are. If you take care of covering your furniture, you will know that it is completely secure from top to bottom. Sometimes this pace of mind makes all the difference in the way you are able to enjoy your newly painted room, especially if you have antiques that cannot be repaired or replaced.

Store Your Pet

If you have a dog, cat, or any other pet that can roam your house, make sure you have somewhere for him to be while the painters are working in your house. If your paint project is going to take several days to complete, you may want to ask a friend or family member to babysit your pets for a brief time. If the painters will only be around for a few hours, you may be able to keep your pet outside or in another room while they are there. Just make sure that your pet is not allowed in the room while the paint is drying, even if the painters are long gone at that time.

Get A Second Key

If you are not going to be around when your painters come in, get a second key to the house for them to use. You can give this to the painters ahead of time, or you can leave it under the doormat or in the mailbox on the day of painting. If you have a keypad on your door, you may want to set up a new code for the painters to use temporarily. You can then delete the code when they are done. As long as they can get in to do their jobs, there should be nothing to worry about.
